Will Smith shooter trial: Defense lawyer points to inconsistent witness testimony

A debbfense attorney for former Saints star Will Smith’s accused killer Cardell Hayes urged jurors Sunday (Dec. 11) to stick to their commitment to be fair in judging the case, despite intense public attention during the seven-day murder trial.

Defense attorney John Fuller, in closing arguments, said the jury assured the court they could discount that one of the parties was a celebrity and be fair “despite the fact that a parade of football players will be seated, sometimes staring at you, and that a parade of politicians might be sitting over here looking at you.”

“Would someone be even sitting at this table if the facts were the same, but the roles were reversed?” Fuller asked. “I know for a fact that if a few names changed..this boy wouldn’t even be sitting here,” he said, shouting the word “sitting.”
