Fassbender and Vikander shut down romance questions

Michael Fassbender refused to answer questions about his relationship with Alicia Vikander in a recent interview saying he does not want to discuss his private life.

The stars began their romance while filming their upcoming movie The Light Between Oceans, and have managed to keep much of their relationship private.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Fassbender wasn’t too impressed to be asked about his love life, telling the reporter, “I’m not going to talk about my private life with a total stranger, unless I feel like I need to.”

“Why would I? I don’t,” he added.

On the reason for keeping their relationship separate from their work lives, Fassbender explained that he would rather people knew him for his performances instead of his love life.

“It’s the worst thing if you’re sitting there in the theatre, going, ‘Oh, that’s the guy who dates this person and likes to do this in the morning and that in the afternoon.’ Then you’re just watching a brand, as opposed to an actor,” he said.

Oscar-winner Vikander also shut down the line of questioning by saying, “I think we’ve made a clear statement that we keep certain things just between us.

“It was very easy to unite, but that’s quite personal.”

The Danish Girl star then echoed Fassbender’s sentiments adding, “Things have changed with social media and technology, but I still feel it helps when I know less about the actors I look up to. That’s what I mean — I love the mystery behind it all.”

The Light Between Oceans is based on the M.L. Stedman psychological thriller of the same name, which was released in 2013.

The pair play a married couple, Tom and Isabel, who, after losing their own newborn baby, discover another child washed up in a boat near their home.

They decide to raise the little girl as their own, but when the girl’s real mother, played by Rachel Weisz, crosses their path, they have a big decision to make.

The Light Between Oceans hits cinemas in January, 2017.
