Tragic country star Joey Feek’s husband Rory is still struggling with her death, revealing he has been unable to pick out a headstone for her tombstone.
The Joey + Rory singer lost her battle with cancer at the age of 40 in March (16) and the 51-year-old is still having a hard time coming to terms with her absence.
“I don’t know why, I just can’t (pick a headstone),” he tells CBS. “I don’t know if it’s that she’s so simple, and a wooden cross is part of what she would like. It probably has something to do with permanence. So, for now, I can sit out here and feel like it’s maybe just temporary. Although I know it’s not.”
Rory has also not been able to record or play music since Joey’s passing and doesn’t know when he will be able to again.
“I don’t want to go onstage without her,” he says. “That’s what I’m thinking about right now. I just don’t want to make music without her. But I also know time changes things. So I won’t say never. It’s just where I am today.”
While Rory continues to battle through the pain, one source of joy in his life is the couple’s two-year-old daughter Indiana, who has Down Syndrome.
“When she was born, Joey and I said, ‘This is the child God wants us to have’, and we believed it,” he wrote on his website. “And we were right. I can not imagine Joey not having those two years to be a mama to Indiana and get to experience the love and happiness that Indy brought to her.
“God knew that. He made it so. It was His gift to her. Like Indy is my gift now. She is the smile on the face of a father who should be crying. She is the joy in the life of a family that should be filled with sadness.”
