Sage Steele has drawn social media ire after an Instagram post about airport delays caused by people protesting President Donald Trump’s executive order on immigration and refugees.
“So THIS is why thousands of us dragged luggage nearly 2 miles to get to LAX, but still missed our flights,” the Carmel High School graduate and host of “SportsCenter on the Road” and “NBA Countdown” posted on Instagram, along with a photo of protesters outside the terminal. “I love witnessing people exercise their right to protest!” she wrote. “But it saddened me to see the joy on their faces knowing that they were successful in disrupting so many people’s travel plans. Yes, immigrants were affected by this as well. Brilliant.”
The Los Angeles Times reported that dozens of protesters spilled out of the airport and onto the main road that winds through airport property. The Times said that some passengers missed their flights, while some flights were delayed as airport employees and travelers were prevented from reaching the terminal. At least two demonstrators were arrested for blocking the roadway.
While protests also took place Sunday at Indianapolis International Airport, there were no reports of travel delays or obstructed roadways. The demonstration mostly occurred in a confined area of the baggage claim.
Some on social media were critical of Steele’s complaint about the protests.
